Anyone can do motion now. YouTube and AOL video prove that. In time the quality will go up too. Look at Current.tv and their Viewer Created Commercials to prove that.
As an agency creative, I have worked on the occasional big budget ads all the way down to low budget Flash for the web. Let’s face it though, except for work in the big agencies, most motion work will only get smaller and smaller budgets. If a company wants a motion spot, these days they have some great low budget options.
You can get a pretty big bang out of a couple creative minds with a good laptop and access to still, motion and illustrated stock. Throw in a few pieces of nice software and voila’ you can produce video. The days of the mashup are just beginning and opening the opportunity for advertisers who could never afford motion media a year ago.
And now smart companies like Converse, Yaris, L’Oreal and others are getting the creative community on the web to create their own commercials. Know what? That creative community out there is doing some great stuff.
